D2 worked closely with the Bellingham Port Authority and the City of Bellingham to develop a comprehensive master plan for the 237 acres on the water’s edge, right in the heart of the city. The goal was to create a park-like experience that connected the downtown to the waterfront, providing everyone access to the water at a location that had previously been a private industrial site. D2 met with various community groups throughout the design process, giving the final approved master plan a strong connection to the culture of the city and a vibrant new experience that includes all its residents. The resulting master plan included a new beachfront park that was recognized with one of four Best Restored Beach awards in the US by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association.
