About the Role
The Project Designer’s skillset is geared toward developing a high level of design quality for their projects. Through client visioning, they gain a strong understanding of the client’s brand, culture, and vision. They play a crucial role in concept design, schematic planning, and design development to help the team deliver a clearly presented and polished product that meets D2’s design standards. Additionally, they assist in executing construction drawings, specific to maintaining the design intent, and aide the project team in completing construction administration activities.
The Project Designer is efficient in making design related decisions, communicates ideas effectively to teammates and clients, and synthesizes design directives with technical parameters. They guide a project’s design intent into construction reality with a focus on practical documentation. They participate in enrichment programs to ensure the firm stays ahead of new product releases, design trends, and industry innovations.
What You Will Do
- Attend client visioning, programming, and internal kick off meetings to gain a comprehensive understanding of client needs, including defining the client’s vision and production of the visioning findings document and program report
- Accurately survey and input existing site conditions
- Develop, shape, and present conceptual designs, schematic design, and design development including an emphasis on best-practices for design and code compliance
- Effectively communicate with the project team through schematic design, design development, furniture, and branding phases to ensure client vision, budget, and deadlines are met
- Pro-actively collaborate with and guide graphic designer(s) to ensure branding design adheres to client vision and integrates seamlessly with interior architecture
- Participate in or provide consultation to team members as it relates to the preparation of construction documentation, including a focus on maintaining the design intent, creation of technical details, adhering to D2 standards, and overall production efficiency.
- Assist in the performance of construction administration tasks as it relates to ensuring the design intent is maintained (including attendance at construction meetings, preparation of addendums/bulletins, submittal reviews, RFIs, and overall construction team communication).
- Effectively communicate with outside consultants and internal teammates to ensure all deliverables at each stage of the design process are fully coordinated.
- Seek out new products, staying abreast of current industry trends
- Be an active and collaborative team member, including participation in activities and programs focused on maintaining and expanding the firm’s production and quality control as well as design aptitude.
- Contribute to the firm’s marketing and sales initiatives through participation in networking and industry events, assisting with social media content, and proper record keeping of all project data.
What we’re looking for
- Degree in Interior Design or similar field
- 6-8+ years of commercial interior design experience
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, 3D Rendering program(s), Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to lead both internal teammates and direct/guide clients throughout the design process
